Surf Gold Coast Style
& Weather Conditions

surf gold coast,

OK, you're at home planning your holiday and the surf is important, so it's the first thing to check out, right?

Next, has got to be the weather!

That's why I've put them together; right here.

Let's Go ...

When deciding where and when to 'jump on your board' on the Coast it's important to understand the wind and swell conditions of the area.

Both wind and swell conditions change with each season, and the two important periods are December to April and September to December.

There is a slight overlap in the following seasonal weather periods, but not enough to be concerned about.surf gold coast,

Our Summer Season covers the 3 months of December, January, February and this is what you can expect: surf gold coast,

Mean temperature: 25.9° C Max average temperature: 30.5° C Min average temperature: 21.4° C Rainfall averages 180mm a month Wind speed average: 21.3 km/h surf gold coast,

Our Autumn Season is March, April, May and our temperatures are:

Mean temperature: 22.2° C Max average temperature: 26.1° C Min average temperature: 18.4° C Rainfall averages: 130mm a month Wind speed average: 18.3 km/h surf gold coast,

The best time for surf on the Gold Coast cooinsides with the major Pro Events; funny that; is the cyclone season that starts in December and finishes around mid-April. surf gold coast,

The Southern points produce quality waves on a weekly basis, due the seasonal large swells and many mid-size swells from the predominantly South to South East wind. surf gold coast,

At the 'peak' season, February and March, waves on the Southern points can be consistently up to 4 - 5 weeks at a time. surf gold coast,

Special Note:

The mid year period from April to September produces variable wind and swell conditions, and that gives you beach breaks all the way from Main Beach to Burleigh. Early morning is the time to catch them.

Our get away from the cold 'Our Warm' Winter Season is June, July, August and this is what to expect:

Mean temperature: 17.2° C Max average temperature: 21.2° C Min average temperature: 13.1° C Rainfall averages: 70mm a month Wind speed average: 18.7 km/h

And if you feel Spring rising then September, October, November will deliver you:

Mean temperature: 20.6° C Max average temperature: 25.3° C Min average temperature: 16.0° C Rainfall averages: 50mm a month Wind speed average : 13.9 km/h

In the September to December period, with predominantly North East winds blowing, there is virtually no swell. The North-end area of the coast can produce the occasional quality wave, but generally, Surfers know this is the worst time for surf on the Coast.

However for the desperate, D-Bar near the Tweed River, will give you the 'fix' you need as it catches a swell if there's one around ... but you gotta be an early riser.
